a very serious problem with HIV/AIDS. Throughout much or most of Africa the impoverished and uneducated are suffering from AIDS for a variety of reasons. The following paper looks at
one particular region of Africa, Botswana, which is one of the hardest hit with the AIDS problem. The paper examines and evaluates 5 different web articles that discuss the problem.
Article #1 The first article to be examined and evaluated comes from an organization known as Avert which is an organization
based out of the UK whose purpose is to educate and assist regarding AIDS in Africa. The article is written by Fredriksson-Bass and Kanabus and is titled "HIV and AIDS
in Botswana." It can be assumed, but not positively, that the authors are from the UK. There is no information regarding their credentials and this seems unnecessary as they are
merely relating facts for the most part. This article, and all other articles, was found through searching for "AIDS" and "Botswana" at Google.com. This article was chosen for its unbiased
and comprehensive information. The authors of this article provide a great deal of statistics and other information. They begin by noting the following:
"Botswana is one of the countries that has been hardest hit by the worldwide HIV epidemic. In 2004 there were an estimated 260,000 people in Botswana living with HIV,
or 350,000 according to a UNAIDS estimate for the end of 2003. This, in a country with a total population of 1.6 million, gives Botswana a prevalence rate of 36.5%,
the second highest in the world after Swaziland. Life expectancy is only 39 years, while it would have been 72, if it were not for AIDS" (Fredriksson-Bass, Kanabus, 2005).
