he struggled to learn and he struggled to achieve freedom, his souls desire. The following paper analyzes elements of Douglass work. Analysis: Narrative of the Life of Frederick
Douglass In this work the story begins with Douglass and what he remembers about his childhood and his earliest years. His early years seem relatively innocent and free form struggle,
as would only be seen through the eyes of a child. He then begins to illustrate how he did not know his birthday or his mother and how he realized,
in looking back at his childhood, that his early years were in a place that was relatively good when it came to plantations and owners. Douglass goes from place
to place, with some places being good, or as good as they could, for a slave and other places being the worst places one could imagine. As Douglass grows up
and learns the good from the bad he demonstrates a very powerful depth and intelligence for he sees that even if masters are kind, they are still masters and slavery
is a horrid institution. He learns to begin to read from one woman, and then that woman is told she is not allowed to teach him. This troubles her
and Douglass and he continues to grab words and written material as often as he possibly can because reading and learning has awakened his identity. At one point, when he
is on one plantation, he is almost broken of any desire to do anything. He has long held a dream of being free but in one plantation he is worked
