equality, the powerful and wealthy benefit from maintaining the status quo. Discussion The great myth is what is called the "American Dream"-the idea that anyone from anywhere can come to
America, work hard, play by the rules and achieve great success. This idea has been proven to be nothing more than a myth over and over again, as the money
in society goes to the top and stays there, denying even the hardest working person the opportunity for real advancement. Likewise, despite decades of struggle, women are second-class citizens,
still expected to put home and family before any thought of a career. And women, no matter how high they rise or how powerful they become, are considered "unfulfilled" if
they dont have a husband or lover, or worse yet, if they dont have children. The idea that women are first and foremost child bearers is one that still cripples
society and denies women their rightful place in it. The same can be said for blacks. Again, after decades of struggle, they too face incredible prejudice. One of the most
telling things here is the rate at which young black men are locked up; they are overrepresented in the prison population and stories about of black drivers being pulled over
for no other reason than the color of their skin, coupled with an overly-paranoid cop. This has happened so frequently that it has given rise to a new charge: "DWB"
or "driving while black." Racism is alive and well in America. But perhaps the most egregious examples of inequality come from the business community, where CEOs of some companies make
hundreds of times what they pay their lowest paid employees. These people make thousands of dollars a day, and for what? They are often heading up energy companies or communications
