debate about its actual classification as a planet, Pluto is commonly included in this list as well. Each of these planets share certain features yet they are also quite
distinct in their own right in regard to their various components and the physical processes which occur there. Although the most familiar to
us, Earth is also the most intriguing of all of the solar systems planets. The earth is the third planet from the Sun. This position has resulted in
the various qualities that allow Earth to support life. On Earth we enjoy approximately a twenty-one percent oxygen concentration (Brit, 2003). The primary component in our
atmosphere, however, is nitrogen (Brit, 2003). It makes up seventy-six percent of our atmosphere (Brit, 2003). Our distinctive atmosphere also allows the retention of water, another key factor
in whether or not a planet can support life as we know it. Numerous factors interrelate to shape the surface of the planets. Wind plays a role in
this process as does water (at least on Earth). Both work to whittle away at the Earths surface, removing material here and depositing it there to create an ever
evolving sculpture. Another key factor in shaping the planets is their rotation. The Earth, for example, is made up of massive geological plates which shift about the surface
