Overview of the Life and Achievements of Colin Powell It seems interesting to note that Colin Powell was unsure what he wanted to do with his life until he entered
into the ROTC when he started college. He was born in Harlem and found his calling in the military, quickly gaining the highest rank one could in the ROTC in
1958. "Powell was commissioned a second lieutenant in the United States Army, and was one of the 16,000 military advisors dispatched to South Vietnam by President Kennedy in 1962" (Academy
of Achievement, 2010). He was injured twice in Vietnam, received the Purple Heart, and continued his education, thus moving up to rank as an officer. He then "won a White
House fellowship. Powell was assigned to the Office of Management and Budget during the administration of President Nixon, and here he made a lasting impression on the Director and Deputy
Director of the Office" (Academy of Achievement, 2010). It is quite evident that as a young military man he gained the quick attention of Presidents, indicating that he clearly had
the material for a great military man. From Kennedy and Nixon and on to work for Carter, Reagan, both Bush Presidents, and Clinton, Powell was involved in many military and
