who are less fortunate in their particular community and they are not only aimed at helping the Chicano population, but other groups as well. While they are perhaps only truly
known, and recognized, in Southern California they are a group that gets involved in many aspects of the community, struggling to make life better for many people, from young children
to the elderly. It is an organization that has proven very effective in the region as it has incited changes in attitude as well as reality and legislation. The following
paper examines this federation and their success. An Overview of the Chicano Federation of San Diego County This particular organization got its beginning several decades ago, in 1968,
struggling to get the Latino population the rights they deserved. It was started by people who were civil rights advocates and "Throughout the 1970s the Federation advocated for Latino recognition,
challenging Latino stereotyping, defending neighborhoods and culture, and promoting voter registration and civic participation" (Chicano Federation, 2010). Anyone familiar with the region of San Diego knows that it is located
