it has become an intriguing pastime. But while entertaining, stories of people losing their shirts in the market are legendary. That said, the investment vehicle that many people find themselves
in-even in their 401Ks-are stocks. Yet, many wealthy people do not want to risk their money like that, even if that is where they once made it. They want to
invest in a more secure financial vehicle which is where bonds come in. Many people have heard that bonds are the way to go to invest in a secure future,
but they are enticed by promises of windfalls in the market, much like playing the lottery. Still, bonds hold a great deal of promise as they give a much better
rate of return than if one kept their money in the bank and they are more secure than stocks. Of course, when someone decides to invest in bonds, many
questions crop up. It is not a simple situation as going to the bank and just buying a bond. Yet, that is one way of purchasing bonds. There are many
types of bonds and it is important to distinguish these. The various bonds fall into categories like "municipal, government, corporate, mortgage-backed or asset-backed securities and international bonds" ("Investing in Bonds,"
2005). Within each of the broad bond categories there are securities that are sold by different issuers and each comes attached with different features ("Investing in Bonds," 2005).
