his banishment to the Mediterranean island of Elba" (British Battles, 2009). But, then Napoleon escaped the next year and resumed his role as Emperor, an action that would lead to
the infamous battle. The following paper offers up a general overview of this important battle. An Overview of the Battle of Waterloo
By the time Napoleon returned to his city of Paris after his escape there were many people who were ready to follow him once more. In light of the
fact that Napoleon was thought to be incarcerated and no longer a problem many of the Allies were not anywhere near France when Napoleon returned. One author indicates how, "The
European powers were meeting in Vienna to re-establish the territorial balance in Europe when news came of Napoleons escape from Elba on 1st March 1815 and his re-entry into Paris
on 20th March" (BBC, 2009). They quickly resumed their stance of war against Napoleon and implemented the 7th Coalition which included Russia, Prussia, Britain and Austria (BBC, 2009).
Because it took time to assemble so many troops and only a few could get there in any reasonable amount of time there
were no armies that could battle him in France when he arrived there. It appears as though the only armies that posed any threat for Napoleon were "a British force
