The Battle of Fredericksburg is considered to be one of the most important in the Civil War. It was a battle that was clearly won by the Confederate soldiers due
to their position in the battle. It is also a battle that was won because the Union was not prepared for what would take place. It is a battle that
serves to illustrate the strength and intelligence of the infamous General Lee and a battle that illustrates some new approaches to warfare during the Civil War. The following paper examines
this infamous battle. An Overview of the Battle of Fredericksburg The battle begins in November of 1862. The Union leader General
Ambrose Burnside took the Union troops he controlled to the Rappahannock river at Fredericksburg, Virginia wherein he intended to cross the river and gain some control. Interestingly enough he had
just replaced another leader that President Lincoln did not like, "President Abraham Lincoln had run out of patience with the army commander Gen. George B. McClellan, who had a bad
case of the slows" (Wyckoff, 2010). While Burnside, according to Wyckoff (2010) had been previously offered such a position on a couple of occasions, and turned them down because he
