but also integrate nursing theory and nursing education not present in the education of doctors. In each case, though, there are benefits and pitfalls to selecting certain careers, and
the study of professionals in this field, including the conducting of interviews, is one means of understanding these differences as a component of future career path selection. The four medical
professionals interviewed include Dr. Beth Segal, Doctor of Emergency Medicine, Dr. Roger Maxon, Trauma Surgeon, Joan French, Physicians Assistant, and Leanne Stevens, Certified Registered Nurse Anaesthetist, all from Massachusetts General
Hospital in Boston, MA. Dr. Segal had been employed at Mass General for 5 years; Roger Maxon for 15 years, Joan French for 8 years and Leanne Stevens for
8 months. The interviews conducted for each of these medical professionals demonstrated some significant differences relative to both their sense of job satisfaction, their advice to emerging students,
and their overall satisfaction with their educational/career decisions. Dr. Segal, for example, noted that at the time she selected Emergency Medicine, she was just finishing her residency at a
small hospital in Maine. She was unaware of the challenges of working in a large, urban hospital Emergency Room and found that to be somewhat overwhelming. In fact,
Dr. Segal stated: "My advice to young students: make sure you know what you are getting yourself into. The ER can be a very stressful place." Dr.
