Some people only gamble during the Superbowl office pool or may buy a lottery ticket once in awhile. Gambling is a part of life, but the extent to which people
embrace it vary. Some individuals will go so far as to become addicted to the activity while others hardly spend their money on something they deem as frivolous. Some skeptics
believe that the odds are in the favor of the house, and to some extent they are right, but the odds of winning increase if one plays the game right.
For example, Blackjack was thought to be a game of chance but in todays day and age it is considered a game of skill. Even if one does not know
how to count cards, strategy is a large part of this game and poker falls into the same category. Gambling is a risk, but there are ways to turn the
odds in ones favor. In examining the history of gambling, its place in the United States and around the world, laws become a part of the equation as do other
factors. Personal preference is also something relevant. Some people enjoy watching the horses race while others simply like to gamble and will do so online or place an illegal bet
with a bookie. Some people simply enjoy a game of cards with friends once in awhile. Such individuals play for pennies or thousands of dollars, dependent on ones socioeconomic class
