end of June or for the better part of July. In terms of mythology, when the second of "Twelve Labors of Hercules" was going to murder the "nine-headed monster" called
Hydra, Juno sent Cancer the Crab in to distract Hercules ("Constellation of," 2004). Hercules would eventually crush the crab and Juno rewarded Cancer with that permanent piece of the
night sky (2004). Cancer is part of both myth and astrology. It is a well known entity within these circles, suggesting that anyone born under the sign is
emotional and creative. Still, the Cancer constellation is real and based in science. Cancer is a cluster of stars, just as all the other constellations. In delving into the Cancer
cluster and its history, the history of the constellation in general becomes quite relevant. First, it is important to define and explore the concept of the constellation. There happens to
be eighty-eight constellations found in the sky at night ("The history," 2004). Constellations may be found in a variety of areas and the average person will be able to
view them simply by peering into the sky and seeking a noticeable cluster of stars (2004). This is particularly apparent for those stars that shine very brightly (2004). In
finding these lighted objects, one can easily discern a pattern or picture (2004). Constellations, at one time, were thought to be representative of "curved lines" and such lines would
