What is so interesting then, is to reveal these similarities and differences and in doing so to understand the people and ideas behind the dogma. Since the
beginning of time, people have speculated on what is the purpose of life and what happens to us after we die. These questions have haunted man from the very
first man. Philosophers, poets, mythological gods and religions have all offered their take on these questions and most often have provided answers which differ from the others. Therefore,
it is indeed interesting to understand these questions and their answers according to these three major religions. Their answers explain much in regards to their ideologies and outlooks and
while the details often vary, it is reassuring to realize that the very essence of most religions espouse the same basic premise. Islam
The Islam religion refers to the Koran as its holy book (Salvation and the Afterlife, 2002). In regards to an afterlife, the Koran states that salvation is dependent
upon a mans actions and attitudes (Salvation and the Afterlife, 2002). Now, in the event that the actions and attitudes of a man are less than pure, then repentance,
or what is referred to as tauba in Islam, is able to save a man (Salvation and the Afterlife, 2002). Therefore, Islam invites man to accept Gods guidance but
doesnt hold out the possibility of salvation through the work of God (Salvation and the Afterlife, 2002). Islam further outlines the final day of reckoning, in which every man
will have to account for what he has done, and it is on this basis that a mans eternal existence will be determined (Salvation and the Afterlife, 2002).
