father and grandmother, if the family would agree to "State oversight of Taylors health" but the family declined (Ladenson). The Bibian family asserted that steps are being taken to address
the childs weight, such as a "strict diet," having regular pediatrician check-ups and regimes of exercise (Ladenson). Based on this testimony, the Polk County judge hearing the case concluded that
there was "insufficient justification" for the FDCF to intervene (Ladenson). The Bibian family was shocked that the State of Florida would even attempt to intervene in their affairs. Many
people would agree with them, but news reports indicate that more often in the Western world, childcare authorities are the extreme threat that childhood obesity poses towards the long-term health
of affected children. For example, in extreme cases of obesity, such as Taylors, which occur in Great Britain, children have been placed in foster care due to their parents ignoring
medical advice regarding their childs weight (Templeton). As one British pediatrician explains, "Obesity in itself is not a child protection concern," but it becomes a concern when parents fail to
