economy and the labor market, and the organizational power of unions. According to your reading of these authors essays, how can you explain patterns of strike in the U.S. since
the late 1940s up to the 1990s? According to their data, are strikes a thing of the past or we should expect an increase in strike activity in the near
future? Economic and organizational theories do help to explain why workers go on strike, a phenomenon that is part and parcel of union culture. Strike activity in the
United States since the late 1940s through the 1990s may be explained in part by Morris and Keils theories as they plunge through the literature regarding economic changes, the labor
market and union power. Through an examination of a variety of data regarding workers, the economy and the power struggle of workers, authors are able to derive sound theories as
to why strikes occur and whether or not they are successful. Morris (2003) explains that "macroeconomics strike activity is important to our understanding of class-wide mobilization" (247). Here, one can
see that there attention to the concept of stratification as unionization and strike activity really affects certain classes. During the 1960s for examples, middle class teachers waged a big strike
in New York and this is something that was not uncommon at the time. However, by and large, throughout history, the union has represented blue collar workers. Yet, while that
