The best part of a party is the people! This is a time for friends and family to get together and enjoy each others company; theres really no other reason
to throw a party. Because the party deals with a new year, we could consider a theme party, but only if everyone is "up" for the experience. Some people find
doing a bit of research and putting a costume together time consuming and it makes the party work for them. But if everyone enjoys role playing, lets go with that.
And because we are celebrating a new year, lets make it a time-travel party, in which guests come as time travelers. Time travel is a staple of literature, film
and television; among time-traveling characters we find Dr. Who; characters from several Star Trek series, and the film The Time Machine; theres even a classic TV series called The Time
Tunnel, and the much more recent Quantum Leap, which is also based on time travel. Let the guests find a character who travels through time and go along with him,
and if six Dr. Whos and four Mr. Spocks show up, so what? The centerpiece of the party could be a "time machine." Obviously we dont want the hosts
to have to spend a fortune on this or take up a lot of time trying to construct an elaborate set, but some cardboard, velvet drapes, silver paint, a fog
machine and indirect lighting could all be used to create a magical atmosphere that suggests other dimensions and different worlds. The time machine, which is really an elaborate archway, will
