While scoffed at by many, horoscopes have a tremendous influence on much of the worlds population. They originate in ancient Greece and relate to the placement
of the planets and other astrological bodies at critical times in a persons life. Horoscopes can also be applied to explain events such as natural disasters. Horoscopes are
surrounded by many misunderstandings. These misunderstandings relate to the modern presentation of them as general guides that are provided mostly as a form of entertainment by the popular media.
Even professional horoscopes, however, are subject to considerable variation in their production and their interpretation. Consequently, there is considerable controversy surrounding their validity.
Discussion There is a tremendous difference between these entertainment versions of the horoscope
and a true horoscope. The former is fabricated by nonprofessionals who are interested simply in the novelty of the horoscope and its ability to attract readers. Professional horoscopes,
in contrast, are quite exacting in their production. They are based on the precise time and place of a persons birth or the time and place of any other
significant event that is being explored. While their validity is still doubted by many, others accept horoscopes as a definitive influence in their lives. As a consequence, horoscopes
can play a role in many of a persons life decisions. Horoscopes can vary significantly in their production even among professional astrologers (New
