speak of discrimination we are talking of realities that involve differences in people. Discrimination means treating someone differently than others for one reason or another. For example, a male of
economic wealth may not give a man of low economic class a cordial "hello" if the man of the lower class says "hello." This is, of course, a very subtle
and simple form of discrimination, but it illustrates how simple discrimination can be. Discrimination can also involve not giving someone a job because of their sex, age, or race. In
essence, discrimination involves not giving someone something, as simple as a greeting or as complex as a job, because of their difference from the one who seems to be in
control. Prejudice is believing someone is less worthy because of who they are, primarily due to racial differences. But, prejudice can be related to issues such as gender and
age and other concerns as well. For example, a poor person can be prejudiced against anyone who is wealthy, thinking that they are mean and evil individuals. An woman can
be prejudiced against all men for one reason or another. Prejudice often involves stereotypes, but it more often than not involves misconceptions, fear, and ignorance. Stereotypes is something that
society generally places upon any specialized group. For example, all men are selfish and insensitive. Women are considered caddy and stupid. African Americans are poor people who live in the
inner city. Native Americans are drunks who dont take responsibility for their families. People from California are flaky and wierd. All Arabs are terrorists in the making. These are some
