The first section of Exodus 13 relates the feasting on the bread they have brought with them, creating important continuity in the story as a whole. The location
of Exodus 13:1-22, then, is significant because it provides a distinct view of the expectations of GOD in light of the deliverance of the people from Egypt. The presentation of
the firstborn males to GOD, instead of the presentation of all children to GOD, is also linked to the elements in the past, and the deliverance of the Jews from
Egypt. When the Pharaoh would not free the Jews from Egypt, God took all the first born children of Egypt, and the Pharaoh acted in malice following the death
of his son in an attempt to break the Jews. The Pharaoh called for the death of all the first-born male children in each Jewish family. Moses, who
helped to free to the Jews from the bondage of Egypt, was a first born male child whose mother set him afloat in a basket in the river in order
to prevent his death. As a result, Moses was first raised by the sister of the Pharaoh, and later became the instrument through which God freed the Jews.
As a result, Exodus 11-16 calls for the sanctification of the first born male children in each home, with remembrances of sacrifice that would lend themselves to the salvation
