reality where some people possess magical capabilities and other people, Muggles, possess no magical powers at all. Rowling creates a very powerful fantasy world where anything seems possible. Yet, despite
that magical and surreal quality, there are very powerful and real contemporary issues within the stories. In "Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone" we are introduced to Harry and see
that he is essentially an abused child. He is often neglected and verbally abused all of the time. This is a very powerful contemporary issue that is seen in Rowlings
