of the Life of Elizabeth Ashbridge the reader is told about her life while she was married to a man and when she changed her way of thinking in relationship
to religion. The following paper examines this particular work. An Examination of the Life of Elizabeth Ashbridge In this story Elizabeth tells of how she was a Christian
and went to where many of her relatives lived, only to find that they were all Quakers. "I felt no small mortification on hearing that my relations were all Quakers,
and, what was worst of all, that my aunt was a preacher" (Ashbridge, 1994; 375). She admitted that she was very prejudiced about them, believing they were not even remotely
close to being Christians. She is very haughty as well, indicating how all the people were "fools" (Ashbridge, 1994; 376). In this one can well see how arrogant she truly
was, at least in the beginning, and she was not afraid to note how arrogant and righteous she was, even going so far as to say "I now began to
be lifted up with spiritual pride, and to think myself better than they" (Ashbridge, 1994; 376). By any sense of righteousness many would quickly recognize that being so proud is
not a good quality and not a Christian quality. This makes the reader find her less than likeable in many respects. But, she is very quickly humbled, as she herself
states as much, indicating how a preacher, when he stood up, "preached the gospel with such power that I was obliged to confess it was the truth" and was humbled
(Ashbridge, 1994; 376). She quickly turned to their faith but was all but beaten by her husband for such a position. He
