case but not another, or may have different meanings and importance in different instances (Particularism, 2003). This does not however, preclude a universal code or general moral knowledge which
can be applied to a variety of situations (Particularism, 2003). Its just that it doesnt need to be reduced to a particular paradigm or common element (Particularism, 2003).
A particulist believes that the moral person is one who is fully sensitive to the moral reasons present in a case
(Particularism, 2003). However, the particularist has a very particular idea of what it means to be fully sensitive to those reasons (Particularism, 2003). In other words, moral reasons
are not much different from other reasons (more ordinary ones), so while morality may be distinguished by subject matter, moral thought does not have a distinctive structure (Particularism, 2003).
So then, to be "fully sensitive" to the reasons means it is important to understand that the core of particularism is "its insistence on variability" (Particularism, 2003).
We can better understand this by invoking a comparison. A generalist would demand sameness in terms of how something functions case by
case, whereas a particularist doesnt believe it is necessary for the sameness to exist (Particularism, 2003). In other words, different feature of a particular matter will have variable relevance
