known individuals who have exemplified superior leadership ability. One is Jack Welch, the former CEO of GE, who is well known for his enthusiasm and no nonsense approach to running
a shop. He has written on the subject of leadership but is most known for his ability as it manifests in practice. Angela Davis, the outspoken professor and activist, is
a leader in her own right, representing many individuals who are behind prison bars. She has been equated with the Black Panthers during the 1960s and has been recognized as
a leading philosopher in her own right. Finally, Tenzin Gyatso, the current Dalai Lama has shown exemplary leadership ability as he captivates the world with his calm demeanor and zestful
approach to life. Each of the named leaders represent different social groups. Represented in these three individuals are different races, genders and other categories. They each come form different
walks of life. They represent the business world, academia and the religious and philosophical manifestations of leadership in this contemporary world. Each exemplifies various qualities of leadership in different ways.
For example, creating a vision for the future is an important leadership skill. Bennis & Goldsmith (2003) remark: "Doing the right things implies a goal, a direction, an objective, a
vision, a dream, a path, a reach" (p.7). How do the individuals just noted demonstrate a vision for the world, or even for a small entity? Each of the named
individuals does have a vision. For Welch, it is success in most any task on the table. He had a vision for GE, but he seemingly has a vision for
other projects of which he has been a part. For Davis, it is a world that cares about all of its citizens and for Tenzin Gyatso, the vision is world
