is on money and lending practices. It is to some extent a goodwill organization comprised of many countries who have similar goals. Why would rich nations--or average nations for that
matter-- be concerned about poor struggling ones? The most important reason is that people do care about the world and the state of it. No one wants to see children
starving in other nations. It is the humanitarian thing to do. Another reason is that it makes economic sense. The idea is that if everyone creates wealth, more people benefit.
It is that simple. That said, there have been a great deal of failures on the part of IMF in its attempt to accomplish its high goals. To an
extent IMF has a unique opportunity. It could alter its lending policies to Third World nations, thereby creating something positive for international business. On the other hand, while the organization
usually takes a positive tact, and at least has the wherewithal to do so, there is a downside. IMF has posed a threat and many critics claim that it has
done more damage than good. Boateng (2003) reports on criticism spouted by Joseph Stiglitz who talks about the IMFs priorities and strategies. He explains that it is important
not only to look at what the IMF puts on its table, but what it leaves off is also significant (2003). He explains that while stabilization is on the agenda,
job creation is not and while taxation is a concern, land reform is ignored (2003). Although there is money to bail out banks, there does not seem to
