essay, it seems as if he can never find a place where he is not considered someone from another region so he accepts his fate and calls himself a border-crosser
as opposed to identifying himself with one or another region. He could say he is a Californian or a Mexican or a hyphenated American, but instead, he calls himself a
border crosser. He realizes that he is neither really because he is many things. He decides to delve into his various labels. They are after all, part of his heritage
and he cannot, nor does he want to, deny any of it. It is through his personal experience, and the people who are around him, including his wife, who give
him the idea to embrace a multiple identity. Gomez-Pena also notices other things in the context of this essay such as the fact that Los Angeles for example had
been a unique locale with its many Spanish residents, but now cities with multiple cultures are commonplace. For this author, there is a positive message that comes from the
fact that multiculturalism is becoming more acceptable and more common. Of course, not everyone agrees. In some way, it makes sense for people to identify themselves as being a part
of one or more groups. This is what the author does. At the same time, it seems that the goals of society should not be to separate and create a
multicultural society, but rather should create a single, integrated society that contains people who are Americans first, but also have other identities. There have been remedies to try to accomplish
