food, as an individual entering a fine restaurant? Such things happen every day in places like New York City. And even for those who do not pass by the many homeless who are sometimes hungry, there are the hungry children that Sally Struthers and other spokesmen talk about. There are children with their bellies so bloated from hunger they appear abnormal. People die in other parts of the world but in developed countries like the U.S., there is a problem of obesity and eating disorders instead. The fact that there is an overabundance in food in one part of the world, and too little in another, is difficult to explain. After all, someone who is "poor" in America will still get their food stamps, which are now provided in convenient and easy to use credit card type form. How can it be that enough food exists but economics and logistics prevent people from being fed? It is difficult to reconcile the fact that people go to church week after week, but then can go to their million dollar businesses, or collect their six figure salaries when others are literally starving to death elsewhere. While one can plead to the senses, and make an emotional argument such as that, it is not sufficient to prompt a true, logical conclusion regarding the problem of world hunger. Sure, a businessman can send millions of dollars to a third world country, but there is no assurance that all the people will be fed. However, a look at Kantian ethics may help justify action on the part of the hungry in the world. Kantian ethics is well known as a body of literature.
