which its primarily goal was achieved. The U.S. effectively rescued Kuwait. In evaluating Desert Storm, how successful was it? How joint was it? Might more have been achieved using other
methods? Hindsight, as they say, is always 20/20. Of course, in one sense, the Americans were lucky. It has been noted that the circumstances of the operation were ones that
will never be duplicated and included the following: "(1) the galvanizing threat posed by Saddam Hussein, (2) opposition strategy, and (3) infrastructure and environment" ("LESSONS LEARNED AND SUMMARY," 1997). Clearly,
the background of Desert Storm is such that it would have been truly unlikely for the mission to fail. There was a good reason to enter the conflict. The opposition
was weak. Also, conditions were conducive to this type of operation. The U.S. certainly had the beneficial position related to the action. The U.S. was much more powerful than Iraq.
It would not lose. In examining what occurred in Desert Storm, an analysis of how much of a joint operation it was is important. First, it should be said that
not only was it a joint operation, but it was perhaps one of the first missions to employ this strategy. It seems that when it comes to joint operations
during Desert Storm, it also served as a role model for the future. In more recent times, the Navy was able to integrate all aspects of operations due to
experience gained prior to Desert Storm and Desert Shield ("A Common Goal," 2007). In other words, because of the experience gleaned during joint operations, Navy ships were able to conduct
