airing in recent times. The recent case of Terry Shiavo, in particular, brought the problems of euthanasia to a definite head in public opinion. Shiavo had been declared
brain dead by the medical establishment yet had subsisted on life support equipment for years. Indeed, video of her revealed her ability to follow motion with her eyes and
apparently to even find pleasure in seeing individuals she knew. Her husband, however, declared she would be better off dead and fought to have her removed from life support
equipment (Sommer 1). Despite the valiant efforts of her parents and notables such as Florida Governor Jeb Bush, the husband won out and Shiavo eventually succumbed to the groping
hand of death. Shiavo, unfortunately, is just one unfortunate individual that has been affected by the clamor to legitimize what in reality is an ethically, morally, and legally, illegitimate
process. The topic of euthanasia is one in which people are divided across a strong line of dissent. On the one hand
some individuals recognize euthanasia as a humane way to end pain and suffering but on the other individuals view the practice not only as an abomination in the eyes of
God but also as a practice replete with possibilities of adverse incentives for the medical profession and others who might have something to gain in the premature ending of an
individuals life. Schiavos case is only the most recent of the cases that have called national attention to the topic of
