seven sacraments. This very important rite is derived from Christ himself who was both baptized and ordered his disciples to go out and baptize after informing them of its
importance. In the Catholic faith a person must be able to make an act of faith - which means they must be able to consciously understand the act of
baptism and accept on faith that they will indeed be forgiven for their sins. The purpose of baptism then, is for the remission of all sin and also the
removal of any punishment associated with that sin. The Sacrament of Baptism is one of seven sacraments in the Catholic Church. Baptism
dates back to the time of Jesus, when Jesus himself was baptized in the Jordan River. "The Jordan has a role ascribed to no other river".1 It was referred
to often in the Bible and other religious writings. For example, the Jordan River "as a saving place was foreshadowed by Joshua crossing over into the promised land, by
Elisha twice passing over the river, and by the cleansing of Naaman".2 "Sacramentality is the principle that affirms that through Creation and the
Incarnation of Christ, the material universe is sacred".3 Essentially, it is through the sacraments that the world of God and the Divine touches the world of man and the
