is who she is inside. This story is interesting and forthright, and explores a side of womanhood which isnt often addressed in films or media.
Indeed, it isnt often that the main character of a story is overweight, but that is exactly the case here. Furthermore, whats especially
interesting and uncommon, is that despite this character being overweight, she is also bright, funny, smart, and leads a very full life. Therefore, it is important to study both
the film and the book as this story is a rarity in the entertainment industry. An Analysis of "Real Women Have Curves"
Real Women Have Curves is the story of a Mexican American woman living in Los Angeles. What ensues is her struggle to determine what she will do with her
life, as her teacher thinks she should pursue her education and her mother believes she should work in the dress shop which is run by her sister. She does
work in the dress shop but her internal conflict grows steadily as she delves into a relationship with one of her classmates. It is this relationship which fuels the
flames of her need for independence from her mother and the sewing shop. Essentially, this story is based upon the ideology that
