objects on MTV for example and have not gained equality in the way that the movement had intended. It is true that women have come a long way since feminism
was launched in the nineteenth century, but as it stands, there has never been a woman in the Oval office. To many activists, it is still a mans world. Women
have made strides but a student evaluating a movement will want to note both positive and negative outcomes. This can be accomplished with the use of a political process model.
The political process model of McAdam (1982 as cited in Duijvelaar, 1996) builds upon the resource mobilization approach that tries to integrate macro-, meso- and micro-approaches (Duijvelaar, 1996). McAdam also
takes into account indigenous organizational capabilities of movements as well as two other additional areas of interest (1996). These areas of interest of the political process model are
essentially political opportunities (1996). One point is that the political situation in a country sets the possibilities as well as limitations for the development of social movements (1996). In the
United States where there is freedom of expression, the setting is ripe for movements. In other regions of the world where women are oppressed and ruled by authoritarian regimes, it
is impossible to protest. For example, prior to the liberation of the Iraqi people women were subject to strict rules, partly due to the religion that is prevalent in the
