one could not say that someone is ethical if they live an exemplary life at home but are cutthroats at work. People must live up to their ideals at home
and at the office. In evaluating the life of Steve Jobs, it is hard to say that all of his decisions are ethical, and there are some problem areas
that cannot be forgotten. Still, in many aspects of his personal life, he is a fine individual and upstanding citizen. Whether or not Jobs is an ethical success or
failure is somewhat questionable. There are some things in his life that he has been profoundly successful at. Starting Apple Computers not only generated money for him, but for a
host of people who are now employed. Essentially, he created job opportunities which is a good thing. Also, his platform was integral to the development of the PC, something that
has changed the lives of millions. At the same time, it is alleged that he stole his platform from Xerox. In many ways, this is unscrupulous behavior. Xerox would sue
him down the road and then when Bill Gates stole the Apple platform for his Windows, Microsoft would be sued as well. Of course, many ethical businessmen chalk such
experiences up to the cost of doing business. It is simply a way to go about daily life at work and if lawsuits arise, that is par for the course.
Yet, one has to question the ethics of that way of thinking. Might Jobs have been better off, or more ethical, if he had asked permission, or bought the information,
