human nature to sculpt his stories and his characters, but he also drew from the turbulence of Spain itself, often portraying his own version of events in a subtly mocking
manner. His form earned him a notable reputation, and along with the character of Pablo in this story, this particular
literary work was considered among his best. This story reveals the heart of a young man intent on taking something from life, much in the same way Spain itself
tried to position itself in the world. The Swindler The Swindler is basically the story of a young man (Pablos)
who is a servant. He is an adventurer and he eventually comes to find his "niche" by praying on the ignorance of others, hence the title "The Swindler".
He goes to Madrid and makes his living by playing cards and cheating others out of their fortunes. There are
many interesting things about this book, one of which is the method by which Quevedo tells the story. Simply put, this story is a sonnet and this author uses
the medium masterfully. He uses a dark sense of humor to illuminate many of the striking issues which were so important during that era.
