that requires one to master two critical aspects of the phenomenon of sound: physics and perception. This is because sound, being a perceptual phenomenon, exists both in the pure sense
of the waves of sound that travel throughout the atmosphere, and in the corrupted form that is altered by the perceptive capacities of humans and other animals. Often, the very
