S all work in inner-city schools, they demonstrate that different leadership styles can have an impact on their approaches and the way they perceive their roles in schools. Differences
in leadership styles can impact school interactions and can be related in terms of both strengths and weaknesses in the process of leading. Principal E Principal E is
a 55-year-old female administrator who has been working in inner-city public schools for most of her career. Principal E describes herself as a "seasoned" professional, though she noted that
she feels relatively new to schools with large populations of socioeconomically disadvantaged students. She stated that for the first 20 years of her career, she worked as a teacher
in an urban private school and only changed positions 10 years ago after completing her education in school administration. The following are the questions posed to her and
a summary of her responses: What is your leadership style? If you had to pick from the three main types, authoritative, participative or delegative, which would best describe
you? Do you see positives and negatives in each of these types? I believe that Im generally considered an authoritarian leader, because I take a hard line approach
and believe that there must be strong leadership in any school. While I think that there are some principals who can be participative leaders and see positive results with
their staff, I think that more often than not, participative or delegative leadership styles end with a lot of people trying to run the ship, and not a lot getting
