information about Charles Foster Kane after he has died. That begins the mystery. The prologue is important. It sets up the entire film. A notable feature of Citizen Kane is
its intricacy of structure ("Citizen," 1995). The first shot is a mysterious castle and then the audience is able to go inside and witness what happens just before Kane dies
(1995). The film is intriguing as it begins with a mystery and it is not a murder mystery or one where the audience can figure things out with clues. Rather,
it is the mystery of a mans life. Why was Rosebud so important? What did it mean? The epilogue provides the audience with the answers. There are questions posed which
puzzles the audience throughout the film. Finally ,the end leaves clues. It is not until Thompson is gone that the audience finds out that truth ("Citizen," 1995). The audience is
in fact privy to a scene where the word Rosebud is shown on a childs sled; this was the sled that Kane lost prior to being sent from his home
(1995). The camera is suddenly outside focusing on smoke rising form the chimney and then it ends (1995). The smoke is likely a reminder of the fire and also
a reminder that it is the mundane things in life that are so dangerous. People go about their business daily, not worrying about their homes being burnt to the ground.
