is a rich novel full of insight into the human condition. This novel is clearly one which expresses distaste of conformity and this is the obvious message which this
author is trying to relate. Babbitt, who is the main character of the novel, is a typical, middle class working man with a wife, family, etc. He is
trying to climb the ladder of success and in the process reflect his typical, middle class ideals which Lewis presents with sarcasm.
Start giving example which reflect the thesis like this: This satire of the common man is evidenced throughout this Sinclair novel. The author begins by
showing us Babbitts life, which is average by any means and through Sinclairs descriptions we understand the drabness of Babbitts existence. In terms of his social affairs, he is
married but despite his wifes compliance she is homely and not very exciting. He grows tired of her and wishes for more thrill and excitement which leads him eventually
to an affair. Babbitt, in typical middle class style, has joined an athletic club which is an irony in itself
because he is not at all athletic. In fact, he is rather pudgy and homely himself. He claims to like parties and social gatherings and yet he gets
bored with his guests and doesnt like the superficial discussions. In terms of his business, he likes to feel like a great, accomplished business man and yet here too,
he bores of his work and the tedious tasks to which he must attend. In the same vein, he likes the idea of presenting himself as a family man
