calls for students to strive to become "architects of a humane and just world." This not-so-easy task requires that the college consider the capacity of its potential students to
become these architects as a part of their admissions process. As an individual, a student and a member of a distinct community, I have demonstrated a number of characteristics
that would be valuable to the University of San Francisco in pursuing its core objectives. From an academic standpoint, I have successfully demonstrated an interest in academic learning and in
applying myself to specific subjects, both those initiated by my instructors and those that I chose myself. I have developed a number of different areas of interest as a
result of my academic process, including science, chemistry, physics and philosophy. I have taken classes in many of these areas, and have also pursued self-study as a means of
expanding my knowledge of the world. A recent independent reading of Jostein Gaarders Sophies World, for example, led me to pursue
philosophy as an area of interest, with a specific view of ethics. This self-study has supported a greater understanding of ethical theory and its application to everyday experiences.
I have pursued additional readings in this area and believe that the study of ethics is an important component to personal and professional development. I believe this is
one of the foundations to developing oneself as an "architect" of a just world. Part of preparing oneself for their role in a
