It was a time of global upheaval as France endeavored to take control and Great Britain essentially stood as the largest obstacle to their power. The following paper offers up
a first person perspective of the Seven Years War, the French and Indian War, coming from one who, hypothetically, lived during the time period in America. An 18th
Century American In the colonies at the time of the Seven Years War there was a great diversity in population. There were the French and the English, who were the
primary players in this war, and also many others such as the Scots-Irish immigrants. "Approximately 100,000 Scots-Irish emigrants came to North America from Northern Ireland between 1718 and 1775, the
vast majority of them stepping ashore in the Delaware River ports of Philadelphia or New Castle" (Explore PA History, 2009). Many of these Scots-Irish quickly moved to parts of Pennsylvania
because of the inexpensive land and it was there they live far from many centers of civilization. In fact I have heard many jokingly say that we "Scots-Irish [have] more
in common with...Indian neighbors than other colonists" (Explore PA History, 2009). The French were primarily occupied along the Mississippi River where there was
a great deal of fur trading to be had, although both French and English were involved in fur trading and dealings with the Natives. For the most part the English
resided primarily west of the Appalachian Mountains and the French West of that but "Both the English and the French claimed the land" as their own (Ohio History Central, 2009).
As such the war was primarily between the French and the English as they argued over who would get the precious land.
