the issue or cause that they are passionate about and identify it as the problem most deserving of attention. Therefore the student will need to identify the issue that concerns
them, and defend it. Here, because it seems so many other problems stem from it, this paper argues that Americas greatest social problem is the huge and growing disparity
of income, which has resulted in the weakening of the middle class as government policies funnel money to the top. Discussion Its axiomatic that the main economic driver of any
society is its middle class. These are the people who do the work and earn enough to live comfortably, though not by any means extravagantly. They put the money back
into society by buying products and services, thus keeping others employed. But when there is no middle class, or when it begins to fail as it is now, the consequences
for the entire nation are chaotic. A society cannot survive when it comprises only the very wealthy and the poor, with no one in between, and that appears to be
the direction in which America is headed. What has gone wrong? The top Americans arent getting richer by accident; government policies are designed to help those who arguably dont need
any help. President Bush "doesnt seem to understand what the economy for average everyday workers is actually like, and he fails to propose solutions to the pocketbook problems working people
