infamous year, one might suggest that the time period between 1787 and 1788 was also revolutionary in its own way. Not only that but one might say that the latter
period of time was even more radical, more life changing than the first. Although the American Revolution did sever ties with the mother country, effectively starting the nation, where it
would go and what it would become would be something yet to be determined. It is easy to speculate as to what might have been, had an event happened
or not, but that is just what one must do in answering the question as to which time period is more significant. On the one hand, had the revolution not
occurred, the United States would have never been born. On the other hand, had the changes effected in 1787 not materialized, the United States as it is known today, would
not exist. In other words, the U.S.A. would be quite a different place. In looking at the two periods of time, it is important to keep in mind that they
were very close chronologically in the context of the history of America. Further, not too much time would lapse before 1787 would roll around. The 1780s was a time when
"poor farmers challenged the new Republics monied elite" (Ehrenreich 66) and things in the United States was less than settled. In that time period, when such a sentiment permeated the
newly created United States of America, Shayss Rebellion was inevitable. Shayss Rebellion was an armed revolt where debtor farmers acted in western Massachusetts (Tuleja PG). The violent protest
was led by Revolutionary War veteran Daniel Shays and effectively lasted less than six months during 1786 and 1787 (PG). The rebellion affected the confidence of the young federal government
