the world. America deems it necessary to change conditions so that women in Iraq can have more freedom, freedom experienced by American women. But, the truth is that they are
not really oppressed and they are simply very different than American women, and they often see American women as having far less freedom than they possess. The following paper examines
the differences between American and Iraqi women and argues that the Iraqi women are suffering greatly at the hands of the American people, thus illustrating how they are encouraged to
seek freedoms, like American women, but yet are treated oppressively by the same forces. American and Iraqi Women American women, women not in the military, enjoy a
great many freedoms that they feel other women, all other women, should experience. They are able to wear anything they desire, get jobs they desire, raise children or not, and
still have careers. They can attend any event or any school that a man can attend and they can choose to do what they will with their own bodies. They
are not killed or belittled for having sexual affairs and they are not condemned for abortions. In essence, in theory, they are very free in comparison to the Iraqi women
in many respects. The Iraqi women, by all outward appearances and by all media theorizing, are made to wear clothing that constantly covers them. They are made to be
nothing more than mothers and wives and they have little power to change anything in their lives. They are ultimately forced to do as men say and many would argue
that this is deeply connected to their religious beliefs. From these perspectives it seems they are oppressed and do not possess the same freedoms as American women. But, in
