by P. Giltman 9/2010 Please There is little question that American society has changed
drastically over the decades. In the 1950s for example, many Americans had just returned from combat during World War II. There were not only rapid advancements in economic growth but
there were technological breakthroughs and new job endeavors that changed the entire landscape of American living. Transportation became more advanced which meant more mobility among families and the industries were
booming which opened up new jobs and corporations for people to succeed. Because of these new openings, American families became much richer, which equated to an increase in home ownership
and new investment opportunities. However, while many American families were doing well for themselves, there was still racial warfare during the 1950s and African-American men, women and children were still
being treated like second-class citizens. In addition, with American men coming home from the war and beginning these new jobs and opportunities, women began taking more of a role at
home by cooking, cleaning and watching after the kids. Politics was also a major concern during the 1950s as local law enforcement officials were trying to find people who either
supported communism or promulgated communist ideas. While black and white images of the 1950s look like an archaic time today, it was undoubtedly a time of change and some of
