take when looking at any moment in history. With that in mind the following paper examines some significant times in American history as it primarily involves justice, liberty, and various
business endeavors in relationship to unions. I: The Dawes Act The Dawes Act was a way of distributing land to
the native peoples in an attempt to help them assimilate into white society. Only through assimilation would they, it can be assumed, be treated equally under the law. In white
society, possessed of white ideals, one would perhaps argue they were treated fairly in being given land but the natives were not white, nor were they farmers and as such
it was not an act that offered equality. "The purpose of the Dawes Act and the subsequent acts that extended its initial provisions was purportedly to protect Indian property
rights, particularly during the land rushes of the 1890s, but in many instances the results were vastly different. The land allotted to the Indians included desert or near-desert lands unsuitable
for farming" (Dawes Act, 2008). II: Frederick Jackson Turner Frederick Jackson Turner was a man who developed a thesis: "The
existence of an area of free land, its continuous recession, and the advance of American settlement westward explain American development" (PBS, 2001). In relationship to what this means, and how
