clearly divided on what stance the United States should take in Middle Eastern affairs, and what our responsibility is to the people of that region. The debates and the
controversy are tangible as we head into the reality of war. Therefore, understanding American foreign policy and the hows and whys of our presence in that region becomes increasingly
important. Furthermore, it is important to understand all sides of the conflict from a policy standpoint in order to gain insight into the full scope of the problem.
American Foreign and Military Public Policy in the Middle East America has a long history of trying to be a peacemaker
in the Middle East, which is evidenced in nations from Israel to Iran (American Foreign Policy and the Middle East Powder Keg, 2003). However, there is much debate, especially
with an imminent war in Iraq, over the distinction between diplomacy versus imposition in terms of Americas impact in that region.
There is no question that a significant number of tax dollars have been used to militarize the Middle East, in addition to the payouts we give to countries of
