II. ECONOMIC Hispanics draw their economic strength from a diverse assortment of applications, which speaks to their ability to adapt to just about any situation. They dabble in many economic ventures, including agricultural, machinery, autos, textiles and shoes, as well as a variety of culinary and entertainment capacities. However, there is a preponderance of the population who struggle to maintain progression in the quest to climb the corporate latter, facing all too often the proverbial glass ceiling where minorities are concerned. Because corporate America is essentially a white mans world, it has been extremely difficult for Hispanics to break the mold and be accepted for their talents while not overlooked merely because of their race. Even though it "makes sense for corporate America to realize there is a problem there and start utilizing the resources that are available to them in minorities and females" (Poor 11B), devising and implementing an effective cultural diversity plan encompassing all necessary variables is often not as simple as it sounds. For example, those who have found their way to higher management positions soon realize their troubles are not over, inasmuch as salary fluctuations, issues of respect and various other difficulties plague the managerial minority. Figures produced in the late 1990s illustrated how nearly twenty-two percent of respondents - which equated to twenty-five percent African-American, ten percent Asian-American and seventeen percent Hispanic women - had plans to leave their current employers. To this, a stern warning came down asserting that "corporations must pay attention" ...
