is clearly a nation unlike most other nations in the world and its humble beginnings are surely like no other nation in the world. It is seen as an oddity
is some cases, and as the culmination of all that is good in other cases. Regardless of opinions, it is most certainly a diverse nation that is often confusing when
examined as a whole. The following paper examines the works of two individuals who have attempted to outline some of what America is. These works are "A Conflict of Vision"
by Thomas Sowell and "American the Unusual" by John W. Kingdom. The paper first offers a brief summary of each work and then goes on to examine the similarities and
then differences. The paper then offers a discussion of how these works can be applied to the future education leaders of America. Sowell Sowell, who is an economist
as well as an author examines the often conflicting visions of human nature. His work addresses the conflicts involved in many areas of the American society. He touches on the
moral, the legal, and the economic conditions in this nation. In doing so he encompasses the past 200 years in his examination emphasizing that the nation is almost always divided
into two very obviously distinct groups. These groups of citizens may not have the same political party affiliation or the same economic position, but they have very similar gut feelings,
as Sowell argues. His work essentially focuses on these two divided parts of the nation illustrating how they have remained essentially the same, in terms of ideals, since the
