The curriculum that is employed in our nations classrooms comes in a variety of styles and qualities. One of the more
popular in modern times is web based curriculum. The World Wide Web has many advantages in terms of curriculum. Electronic in nature, web-based curriculum can be revised as
needed. In theory, at least, this keeps it more up-to-date than traditional print curriculum. The ability to link to other information on the web empowers the curriculum with
all of the knowledge that is available on the Internet. Finally, web-based curriculum is essentially free and negates the need for expensive publishing costs. The quality of this
type of curriculum, however, can range from very bad to very good. One of the disadvantages of web-based curriculum is that it often negates the typical process of peer
review. Information can be put up instantaneously and the room for error can be tremendous. In most cases, however, web-based curriculum is far superior to traditional print texts.
Much educational material is sponsored by the government itself, in fact, and comes at no cost to the educational institution utilizing it. Such is the case for "America Dreams..through
the decades", a web site developed by the Library of Congress. The "America Dreams" web site has all of the advantages of the
World Wide Web. Material from a variety of sources is available at essentially the touch of a button. The same materials which were traditionally obtained from library research
are also available on the Web but the format through which they are obtained, as well as the format in which the information is presented, makes it much more
