historical relationship between the United States and Russia, it is essential to understand the aspect of geopolitical involvement, a concept that dates back long before the two superpowers ever considered
engaging in the Cold War. As equally defiant nations, Russia and America were integrally intertwined with the geopolitical perspective that defined an unavoidable connection between "international conflicts and interactions"
(Shelley, 1994, p. 487) at the Cold Wars precise period and thereby illustrating this component with "American containment of Soviet expansion" (Shelley, 1994, p. 487). "Out of habit, everything
was based on a theory that until recently governed international relations--the concept that a unipolar world, a world with only one superpower, could not exist. It was maintained that,
if one superpower exists, then another country, or a group of countries will inevitably begin to create another superpower, which will challenge the first one, bringing about parity" (Zlobin, 2003,
