against himself. It is a story filled with losses and struggle and simple hopes and survival. As with any powerful story, all the elements of the story are very important
to the story, the plot, the theme, and all other conditions within the story. And, if one thing were to change the entire story could become a completely different story,
or it could merely take a different path and arrive at the same moral or theme. The following paper examines what this particular story would be like if the old
man were not alone at sea but had taken the young Manolin with him. The Old Man and the Sea with Manolin As noted, this story involves one
old man at sea. He is a man who has previously always fished with a boy named Manolin, however when the old man, Santiago, goes to see the boy has,
by that point, been restricted from fishing with the old man any more. Generally this is because the village thinks that Santiago is not lucky. The old man in
the sea, alone, comes across many problems that may have been, or may not have been, solved had he another person in the boat with him. And, if Manolin had
gone with him there are several ways in which this could have altered the story. The first example will discuss how the story could play out if Manolin were there
and helped the old man actually bring home the marlin he caught. With Manolin there Santiago would have had an extra pair of hands to help him with the
fish. He could have managed to actually bring the whole fish, or most of the fish, all the way home and found great respect in the eyes of the village.
